About

Hello, my name is Clayton Vance.

I’m an architect and artist.  My life's pursuit has been to understand why the built environment pre-1920(ish) gains more character and beauty as it ages while the present day built environment gets uglier.

This blog should enlighten, inspire, and help you understand why you love visiting certain places and why when you travel you don't go walk around strip mall and Walmart parking lots.  This blog helps explain what timeless design is and how we can achieve it today.  All this current talk of sustainability doesn't address aesthetics and I believe if something isn't aesthetically sustainable, it isn't truly sustainable.

I hope this blog inspires you to explore new places with new eyes. Feel free to leave a comment or follow me on social media!
